Academy Standouts: 2020 Summer Week 4

Academy Standouts highlights the players who performed best in the most recent week of NA Academy play. I’ll discuss a few of the most noteworthy players, then list some of the other strong performers below.

Fudge, Top, Cloud9

Fudge keeps on keeping on, playing Ornn against CLG Academy and Camille against DIG Academy this week and excelling both in the rank role and the carry / split push position. His ownership of side lanes and big-time flank engages on Camille were especially impressive.

This split, Fudge has almost as much DPM as his mid and bot laners, and it’s not like either of them are slouching…

I’m not sure how much I can say about this guy, so I guess let’s move on to another player? Oh, look who’s up next…

Lost, Bot, TSM

Are you convinced yet that this guy is the real deal?

Yes. Yes you are.

Because he is.

He may not have crushed his lane this week, but he carried hard on Aphelios and Ezreal anyways, and a player who can do that is worth paying attention to.

ZionSpartan, Top, Golden Guardians

ZionSpartan’s play this split has been a return to form, on a slight time lag from his name reversion. His performances have been as handsome as his face, and his Wukong against 100 Academy, in particular, was a lot of fun to watch. We got to see him carry with resources on Wukong, and also shine with his strong macro sense and minion wave control in the mid/late game against TSM Academy on Aatrox. He doesn’t show quite the individual skill ceiling of someone like Fudge anymore, but his experience shows through in his ability to play effectively both from ahead and behind.
