AC/AM Standouts: 2021 Spring, Week 13

AC/AM Standouts highlights the players who performed best in the most recent week of NA Academy and amateur play. I’ll discuss a few of the most noteworthy standouts, then list some other players whose performances caught my eye below.

Jojopyun, Mid, Evil Geniuses Academy

EGA’s budding star Mid laner had a huge series against TSM Academy on Saturday, destroying his mid lane opponent and carrying in a pair of Orianna games and one mid lane Renekton pick that brought some great flexibility into the best-of-five series. Earlier in the week, Jojo also brought out a mid lane Sett pick that nearly won game 2 against Cloud9 Academy but wasn’t quite enough.

With every passing week, Jojopyun is adding more tools to his kit and increasing his value as one of the best North American prospects out side of the LCS.

K1ng, Bot, Cloud9 Academy

Another week on top for K1ng, who is in an ongoing battle with contenders like Luger and Prismal for the title of “strongest Bot laner in NA outside of the LCS.” Lately, he’s starting to pull ahead in that conversation once again. It’s especially meaningful that he went off in the late game as Tristana in the second game against Evil Geniuses Prodigies, since he has always been known primarily for his laning phase.

Hauntzer, Top, TSM Academy

Even though TSM Academy eventually fell out of the tournament at the hands of Evil Geniuses Academy, it was nice to see Hauntzer step up and deliver some really strong games to lead his team through multiple stages of the Lower Bracket. His Gnar pentakill was a memorable moment, and his pair of Wukong performances against FlyQuest Academy were crucial to the team’s success. It’s been an up-and-down year for Hauntzer, but he really showed up last week.
