Academy Standouts: 2021 Summer, Week 16 (PG Finals)

Academy Standouts highlights the players who performed best in the most recent week of NA Academy play. I’ll discuss a few of the most noteworthy standouts, then list some other players whose performances caught my eye below.

ry0ma, Mid, 100 Thieves Academy

There’s a very strong case from ry0ma as the MVP of Proving Grounds, and certainly the MVP of 100T’s reverse sweep to win the Grand Finals.

His control mage work on mostly Ryze and Orianna was a huge stabilizing factor for 100A, and he carried hard game in and game out. Just look at his DPM number.

Proving Grounds 4.4 68.8% -241 661 8.8

The championship-winning Shockwave ry0ma hit in game 5 against TL Academy was such a perfect capstone to what he did for his team all tournament long.

Luger, Bot, 100 Thieves Academy

Have I ever mentioned how good Luger is? Like, he’s real good. A quality player.

Throughout Proving Grounds, Luger has churned out big stat lines, won his lane matchups, played team fights well, and created strong points wherever he was on the map.

If Luger isn’t in LCS next year, it won’t be because of his level of play, that’s for sure.

Eyla, Support, Team Liquid Academy

Three strong series from Eyla saw him anchor his team in at least one game (haha Nautilus joke), shield his team from an early exit (haha Braum joke), and moo (haha Alistar joke).

Whenever TLA played well, Eyla was there at the centre of things. His team fight CC and his pick game on Bard impressed, and his map activity was strong as always, though his river sojourns did get him in trouble in some games.

Hopefully the opportunity will be there to see a lot more of Eyla in 2022.
