Academy Standouts: 2020 Summer Week 9

Academy Standouts highlights the players who performed best in the most recent week of NA Academy play. I’ll discuss a few of the most noteworthy players, then list some other strong performers below.

FakeGod, Top, 100 Thieves

100 FakeGod 2020 Split 1.pngPlaying behind Ssumday isn’t easy, especially when we’re only a year removed from Ssumday’s little Academy side quest, where he dominated on a completely different level. But FakeGod has been doing his work in the background, chipping in consistently for 100 Academy, and in week 9 he broke out and showed not only why he has earned LCS reps in the past, but also why he has continued to hold his Academy spot despite having a strong prospect, Tenacity, playing with 100X and nipping at his heels.

100 Academy have been making a charge in recent weeks, and FakeGod and his teammates have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs, especially if FakeGod keeps playing at this level and shows that he can run with players like Fudge and Dhokla in the top lane.

Froggen, Mid, Dignitas

DIG Froggen 2020 Split 2.pngFroggen’s demotion to Academy hasn’t produced quite the Ssumday-level dominance that might have been hoped, given his pedigree and his ability to apply strong individual skill in the LCS for the past few years even when team success was difficult to find. But this week, he stood up and made himself impossible to ignore, playing Sett and Leblanc.

He played Jayce and Irelia this week.
