AC/AM Standouts: 2021 Spring, Week 8

AC/AM Standouts highlights the players who performed best in the most recent week of NA Academy and amateur play. I’ll discuss a few of the most noteworthy standouts, then list some other players whose performances caught my eye below.

Shiro, Bot, Evil Geniuses Prodigies

EGP’s bot laner has been holding down a spot in the top 3 NA amateur prospects throughout the year, and his play in the Giant Slayer Gauntlet so far is showing why. He exploded on games of Samira and Kai’sa against Winthrop University, and he outshone Prismal of Golden Guardians Academy in a 2-0 series win, which is no easy task.

The break between the Unified Grand Prix and Giant Slayer Gauntlet seems to be have a good reset for Shiro, whose play had been falling off a little along with his team’s overall performance, and he returned to the Rift with a vengeance this week. Hopefully he can continue to deliver as he faces even stiffer challenges in the remaining rounds of this tournament.

Jojopyun, Mid, Evil Geniuses Academy

One of the hottest prospects in Academy, Jojopyun is continuing to make a case for himself as the next big thing in the North American Mid lane talent pool. He has been leading EG Academy through this tournament with his Ryze carry performances and overall strong play, and as the rest of team also continues to find its footing, they are looking like favourites to win the Giant Slayer Gauntlet tournament.

Jojopyun’s stats aren’t the best, with some mechanical fumbles and a lot of enemy attention setting him back here and there, but his potential is shining very brightly in his positioning and team fighting nonetheless.

TeamLuke, Bot, Wildcard Gaming

TeamLuke has been playing Kai’sa, Tristana, and Xayah, and performing well in a stabilizing clean-up role with some aggressive moments. He has been the standout in Wildcard’s surprising run to to the Loser’s Quarterfinals so far. (It’s worth acknowledging that WC’s path to this point of the tournament has been assisted by some very unfortunate connectivity issues from Barrage, too.)
