First Blood Trends Among the World Championships Teams

First Blood is a compelling storyline in any game, and I find myself drawn back to exploring it constantly. A while ago, I looked at which players were most active in securing and giving up First Blood. Today I’m exploring the teams angle: which World Championships teams were best at picking up First Blood, how important was it to their success, and what are some other patterns we can spot in what their FBs looked like?

We’ll start by assessing overall First Blood rates and win rates, then move on to FB timings and how many players were usually involved in each team’s FB kills and deaths.

For a TL;DR of these findings with some “top 5” lists, scroll to the bottom of the post! Continue reading First Blood Trends Among the World Championships Teams

TP Mid Supplement: Champion Win Rates With/Without Teleport

In my article about Teleport Mid laners, published today at Unikrn, I explored the win conditions and ideal game plans for using TP Mid in professional play. While the article is fairly thorough, it doesn’t cover every possible angle or complexity that might affect the conversation. Below you’ll find a supplementary table of win rates for different champions when playing with and without Teleport in the Mid lane, to cover one possible alternative explanation for my findings, which is that the stats are mostly measuring the best ways to use Diana and Twisted Fate, rather than the best ways to use TP Mid. That’s a big conversation, and one I’d love to continue in the comments or on Twitter, and hopefully the data below will help. On An Island: Top Lane Play in LCS and LCK

Each region has its own flavor, and part of that flavor is how teams prioritize the contributions of each position. Generally speaking, AD Carries receive the biggest share of the resource pie, with Mid laners following close behind and Top laners coming in third. But there is variety in how this hierarchy plays out: in North America, for example, AD Carries are placed on a higher pedestal than anywhere else, while Europe’s Mid laners enjoy larger shares than their counterparts in other regions.

Then we have Korea. In a somewhat surprising twist, it is the Top laners who receive special treatment in the LCK. Compared to North America and Europe, Top laners in Korea pocket more of their teams’ gold, are allowed to absorb more late-game farm, do more of their teams’ damage, and generally influence the games in a different way. (Data from China’s LPL is not available.)

In this article, we’re going to explore what Korea’s Top lane priority looks like, both in the early game and the late game, where that priority comes from, and finally its effects on how LCK games play out.
