Academy Standouts highlights the players who performed best in the most recent week of NA Academy play. I’ll discuss three of the most noteworthy players, then list some of the other strong performers below.
Yusui, Mid, Team Liquid
As I said about Triple last week, there’s an opening for “best Mid in Academy” right now, and Yusui is another leading candidate. He asserted himself this week quite effectively with a pair of strong showings featuring very different play styles. His reduced shot calling burden, now that Grig has joined the team, appears to be freeing him up to perform that much better on a personal level, which is a good situation for his play style to really shine.

Triple, Mid, FlyQuest
With Damonte returning to the LCS, there’s an opportunity for another player to step into his position as the best Mid in Academy. In week 1, Triple made a strong argument for slotting him into that spot.
I’ve been watching Academy closely all split, and highlighting the standout performers each week. Now that the regular season has wrapped, it’s time to assess the entire nine weeks of work and honour the best player at each position.
NOTE: I’m unable to report full-split stats for these players due to ongoing issues with Riot’s match history service, but you can see the stats for weeks 1 through 8 here.
Scroll to the end for the TL;DR of 1st-team and 2nd-team selections.
