STAT CARD: Faker

Faker stat card

Faker has been the consensus best player in the world for years, and he’s continuing to lead the way for his team, SK Telecom T1, in the 2016 season. This year he’s playing with co-star MaRin, who left after their World Championship victory to play in China’s LPL with LGD Gaming.

In MaRin’s absence, and with stalwart Jungler Bengi struggling to find his place in the carry-jungler meta, Faker has been relied on more heavily to directly carry games. It’s been easier for opponents to predict Faker’s role in SKT’s game plans as a result, and limit the success of some of his early laning and mid-game playmaking. Faker has the second-highest death share of LCK Mid laners, as a result.

That hasn’t stopped Faker from keeping up his high-pressure play style, though, and he’s been topping the damage and gold charts while staying top-3 in farming numbers. If Faker can get a little bit more playmaking support from his teammates, so that he doesn’t have to carry so much of the load himself, SKT should keep challenging near the top of the LCK standings.

Peanut vs. Score: Korea’s Best Jungle Talent

Who is Korea’s best Jungler?

So far this year, two players have taken control of the Best Jungler conversation. One is a fresh-faced, diminutive, ever-smiling rookie, Peanut of the ROX Tigers, who played only a single game with Najin in the 2015 Summer regular season. The other is long-time veteran Score of KT Rolster, one of 2015’s most under-discussed players, who spent last year playing in the shadow of Ssumday and Piccaboo.

Both Peanut and Score have been key components of their teams’ impressive performances through the first three weeks of the LCK season. But who has been better?

Chaser: Free Agent Jungle Superstar

Korea has a long lineage of superstar Jungle talent. Players like KaKao, Spirit, Dandy, and Bengi are international household names. After the 2015 exodus of Korean talent to China and elsewhere, the LCK Jungle talent pool was heavily depleted, with three of the four players I just listed leaving the Korean scene.

Other players stepped up, trying to fill the void. One stood out above the rest: Chaser of the Jin Air Green Wings. Now he has declared free agency, and may be following his better known compatriots overseas, or perhaps simply looking to find a better chance to win at home.

What makes Chaser worthy of comparison to the great names I’ve listed? Let’s start with his Summer split stat line.
