TSM Dyrus: Playoff Performer

Last weekend, Team SoloMid earned a Quarterfinals victory over Gravity, riding on the shoulders of their much-criticized Top laner, Dyrus. TSM built multiple team compositions around Dyrus’s unexpected Olaf pick, surprising many with their shift in strategy.

Dyrus played Olaf three times and Gnar once and delivered big time on those selections, earning a 4.0 KDA and averaging 72% kill participation, 23% damage share, and only 18% of his team’s deaths. It was an MVP-worthy performance, and gave the veteran plenty of cause to break from his often stoic demeanor and share a few smiles afterwards.

But while the Dyrus-centered strategy was a big change from TSM’s recent style of play, Dyrus’s performance should not have been at all surprising: if the Spring split taught us anything, it’s that Dyrus knows how to show up in the postseason.

NA LCS FINALS PREVIEW: TSM VS C9, HEAD TO HEAD

Cloud9 vs. TSM is the dominant rivalry of the NA LCS. The matchup is maybe less storied than TSM’s older, more personal rivalry with CLG, which extends back to the pre-LCS years and is embodied by the colorful history between Reginald and HotshotGG, but while C9/TSM may lack that same level of animosity, it has featured much higher stakes: Cloud9 and TSM have faced off against each other in the last three NA LCS Finals.

Now North America’s two heavyweight franchises are set to meet in a fourth consecutive North American Final, this time with Championship Points and a trip to the Midseason Invitational on the line.

As we prepare for the Spring 2015 NA LCS Finals, let’s look at some statistics from the regular season and playoff games that both teams have played so far. We’ll explore each role matchup to get an idea of where each team’s advantages lie, and also compare some overall team stats.

These stats don’t tell the whole story, but they draw attention to some interesting facets of the players and teams which we might not otherwise notice. NA LCS Semi-Final 2 Preview: Team Solo Mid vs. Team Impulse, Head to Head

The largest fan base in the NA LCS belongs to TSM, but Team Impulse, formerly LMQ, has been winning over plenty of fans of their own with their skirmish-heavy, aggressive play style, epitomized by their jungler Rush, the former Korean solo queue star. Now the two teams are set to face off in the second Semifinal of the 2015 Spring playoffs.

There has been plenty of debate about TiP’s chances to dethrone the reigning IEM World Champions, and perhaps surprisingly, TiP is getting a lot of popular support, in some cases even being called the favourites to make it to the NA Finals. In this article we’ll apply some statistics to the TSM/TiP matchup and see who has the advantage role by role, as well as looking at some overall team stats.
