AC/AM Standouts: 2021 Spring, Week 11

AC/AM Standouts highlights the players who performed best in the most recent week of NA Academy and amateur play. I’ll discuss a few of the most noteworthy standouts, then list some other players whose performances caught my eye below.

Contractz, Jungle, Evil Geniuses Academy

Contractz dominated FlyQuest Academy with a pair of Nidalee games where he exerted relentless pressure all around the map, especially working around Tony Top’s Camille and Jax picks to set up the side-laning win condition. His Nidalee javelins around the Baron pit in game 1 changed the story of the series, and his play overall was the main factor behind EGA’s upset over FLYA and their advancement in the upper bracket.

If Contractz keeps playing this way, he might force some difficult pre-Summer conversations for the Evil Geniuses org, given their struggles in the LCS Mid-Season Showdown.

Tomio, Jungle, Evil Geniuses Prodigies

EG Prodigies’ win over Immortals Academy was the biggest upset of Proving Grounds so far, and Tomio was at the heart of things, picking Nidalee twice and then taking Hecarim in game 3 and playing like a wrecking ball, throwing himself all around the map and especially playing fast and hard into top lane to boost up Srtty.

If Tomio can continue to refine the subtleties of his game and add more intelligence into his decision-making, while continuing to play with this kind of pace and energy, then he’s going to be making a lot of noise in North American for years to come.

Tenacity, Top, 100 Thieves Academy

Tenacity played Aatrox, Renekton, and Volibear in a 2-1 win over CLG Academy last week, and he generated good laning leads, including a solo kill on Thien in game 3, and a lot of damage output with good team fight positioning, specifically in 100A’s wins.

This week, Tenacity has to face Tony Top of EG Academy, and the head-to-head between those two will say a lot about how well Tenacity is growing into some of the subtleties of his role, since Tony Top loves to play with heavy jungle attention and try to carry through side laning.
